Our History

Don Juan Foods Inc. was established in 1972 in Modesto, California, when Mr. Jose Bautista and Mrs. Maria Bautista purchased the small bakery from Mr. Juan Hidalgo, also known as Don Juan Hidalgo.

Great food is in the Bautista’s DNA. Dona Maria’s father was a butcher from Tangancicuaro, Michoacán and her mother was the owner of food booth in the local outside market that specialized in catering food for weddings.  Don Jose was owner of a bakery in Tangancicuaro, and developed the Bolillo (French bread style) and the Mexican churros that are now so well-known throughout the valley.

The business that began as a bakery, market and tortilla factory has been owned and operated by the Bautista Family for over 40 years. Today Don Juan Foods continues to produce authentic Mexican bread, pastries and tortillas while the delicatessen, well known for their Michoacán style Carnitas, Chicharrones, Chile Verde and Chicken Fajitas, maintains the traditional food recipes created and perfected by Dona Maria’s touch.

Don Juan Foods specializes in authentic Mexican and Central American products helping families bring the traditional flavors of home to their dinner tables. “Don Juan Foods is bringing a little bit of Mexico to you.”
